As the season of giving continues, the Explore The Middle East Club decided to help out refugees from Afghanistan arriving in the Sacramento community.
The Explore the Middle East Club met two families on Wednesday Dec. 3 at the Sacramento International Airport after they landed at 9:30 p.m. That is where they gave two families, the Nabeels and the Mamonds, gift baskets that the club prepared for them. The joy on the families’ faces when they saw the posters that were prepared for them was heartwarming to all of those present.
To help out these refugee families, the club raised enough money by asking around for donations. These donations helped get supplies like toiletries to give to the refugees. Key Club also joined the effort by giving their club members volunteer hours for bringing items such as toiletries as well as making a welcome poster and card.
The club decided to do this because “People assume that this is an issue happening 3,000 miles away that doesn’t affect us at all, when in fact it does. These refugees are the people we are letting into our homes. It’s representative of our character and morals as we do what we do to help,” said Hadeel Zidan who is the president of the Explore The Middle East Club.
If you would like to contribute to the club and be a participant in similar acts of kindness, contact Hadeel Zidan through her email, [email protected].
