Np3 High will be hosting their annual blood drive on Tuesday, Feb. 11 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m in the gymnasium, which will be open to all Np3 students, teachers, parents, staff members, and anyone part of the Np3 community.
This event is part of a senior project to raise awareness of blood donations and encouraging the Np3 community, including the Natomas community, to donate blood.
“Nearly 5 million Americans would die without life saving blood transfusions every year and one pint of blood can save up to three lives,” according to the Vitalant website.
This drive is open to all Np3 students 16 years and older, staff, and parents. Students who are not yet 18 years old must have a signed parent consent form to participate.
The process of the blood donation will take about an hour. It will start with a questionnaire for volunteers to check their eligibility for donating, then their blood will be drawn, and lastly donors will be provided snacks and fluids to stabilize their blood sugar levels which can sometimes be affected by giving a donation, making donors feel light headed.
Make sure you eat a well nutritious breakfast the day of your donation.
Students will be given an appointment for the day of the drive, once their parent consent form has been received and approved.
Students will need to bring their parent consent form and an ID specifically stating their name, photo, and birth date on the day of the drive.
Those students who are 18 years old, staff, and parents will be able to walk in and donate. However, an appointment will be recommended for them.
After donating, people will receive a free California bear blood donor shirt.
If you have any questions about the blood drive, email Zara Afridi at [email protected] or [email protected].
Parent consent forms are available in room E-1 and are also available on this online link at BLOOD DONOR QUALIFICATIONS.
