Care Crafts Project is a US-based organization that asks volunteers to create crafts that are gifted to hospital patients. For those unfamiliar with the organization, volunteer coordinator Tanya Gadhia, a sophomore, says that the project aims, “to try and spread the love and make (patients) feel like they’re cared for.”
Since there is a Sacramento chapter with NP3 students as officers and volunteers, it is not an official club with an advisor. Social media manager Alyssa Lor says that the leaders are thinking about applying to make Care Crafts an NP3 club within the next school year. For those interested in getting involved with the project, meetings will generally be held during tutorial, although there is no official meeting schedule yet.
Gadhia explains, “I think that people should join our organization because it’s just fun even if you’re not the best at making crafts. It’s fun to do with your friends, it’s donating for a good cause, and you get volunteer hours.” As for the kinds of crafts that volunteers can expect to make for hospital patients, the organization makes cards, bracelets, bracelet kits, and crocheted items.
Editor Kaylee Chouang explains that students who may be interested in joining Care Crafts would be, “anybody who wants to help the cause, and if they have artistic interests it would be good to have an outlet to get those things out.”
There have not been many tutorials open for volunteers to get to work yet. Gadhia explains, “we don’t want to host any tutorials until we have enough materials,” so soon there will be a donation box in the NP3 front office for materials. Additionally, there is an Amazon wish list for materials in the linktree on the “carescraftsprojectsac” Instagram page. Items donated to the front office box or bought from the Amazon wish list will count towards volunteer hours for Key Club, although the volunteer coordinator is still arranging how many hours the items will count for.
For the organization as a whole, the different crafts generally count for different volunteer hours. To get one volunteer hour you could make two cards, two bracelets, or one bracelet kit.
