An upcoming educational travel program to Spain will offer NP3 students an opportunity to engage directly with Spanish culture, language, and history.
Scheduled for March 2028, with final dates to be confirmed, students will visit four major cities in 11 days: Granada, Seville, Barcelona, and Madrid.
The trip will be led by EF Educational Tours, a global education organization with 60 years of experience. A full-time tour director will be available throughout the trip.
Spanish teacher Michelle Meditz will be one of the chaperones on the trip. She studied abroad in Barcelona, which led to her decision to pursue a master’s degree in Spanish.
“Every time I go back to Spain, I love the culture, the people, and the safety. There’s something for everyone. Whether it’s sports, arts, food, or hiking outdoors,” said Meditz.
Some of the highlights include visiting the Alhambra Palace in Granada, taking a walking tour of Seville, viewing the mosaics and fountains of Plaza de España in Maria Louisa Park, exploring cultural influences in Córdoba, and taking expert-led tours in Madrid and Barcelona.
“I think it’s a great place to start with European travel as a young person because it is so safe and a lot of our students speak Spanish,” said Meditz, “I think Granada is pretty magical. It’s the sort of place where students can walk and wander and feel very safe.”
The trip also offers students the opportunity to learn about Spanish history and culture through activities such as watching and learning flamenco, visiting a traditional Moroccan tea house, or taking hands-on Spanish cooking lessons.
“I’m excited for the trip because I have never been to Spain, and the culture and food are really good,” said Emma Vollmer, a sophomore who signed up for the Spain trip.
Added Kylie Durham, a freshman who signed up for the Spain trip, “I’m excited to see the architecture and learn about the culture and walk around the town. I’ve been to five different countries, and I love travelling.”
Interested students or students who want to apply for the trip can email Meditz at mmeditz@natomasunified.org.
