There has been a lot of talk about a rematch between juniors and seniors on the court after the homecoming game in October.
“We were at a disadvantage, two of our most valuable players were not allowed to play,” said junior Jaspreet Kaur, who helped spearhead spearhead the petition for a rematch.
When the game is played, proceeds will be used for supplies for the people who have been affected by the Camp Fire in Paradise, California.
Felt James, who was a coach for the junior team supports the rematch.
“It’s less about the rematch but more about raising money for the families that have been devastated by the fires,” James said.
One month ago, Thursday, Nov. 1 was the NP3 High School homecoming game, there were two separate basketball games held. One game was for sophomores versus freshman and the other was for juniors versus seniors.
After the juniors versus seniors game arose some conflict. Seniors beat the juniors by 7 points but juniors argue that this was only because two of the players their team were not able to play because they had incompletes in some of their classes. (The juniors team was not the only team who had players benched because of grades.)
“Its unfair how student athletes put in so much time practicing and such for their respective teams to find out they were not allowed to participate in the one sporting event of the year last minute,” said junior Parris Thandi, who was one of the benched players.
Jaspreet Kaur, who started the effort for a rematch game hand delivered petitions to all junior advisory teachers which students signed if they felt the juniors deserved a rematch. Kaur discussed her petition drive with the dean of students, Shawn McGuire who confirmed with The Pacific Times that the rematch event can move forward.
The Pacific Times will keep you updated when the game is scheduled.
