NP3 High will hold its 8th Annual College Exploration & Application Prep Seminar for rising seniors over the summer.
The objective of this seminar is to provide assistance with the college application process.
The seminar gives students the opportunity to get a head start on their college applications with the guidance of their school counselors. During the three-day seminar, the students also learn more about scholarship opportunities and the colleges and universities in which they are interested.
The seminar will be held in E-1. It begins on June 10 to June 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
On Monday, June 10, students will create accounts on websites like California Colleges, Big Futures, and CAPPEX. These websites help students organize their grades and accomplishments during high school. Websites like CAPPEX provide scholarships and help students determine their chances of admission to certain schools.
On Tuesday, June 11, the counselors go over the basics of college applications. For students interested in UCs, the counselor will go over different type of applications for CSUs, UCs, and Common App. The counselors also plan to go over WUE, Western Undergraduate Exchange, which is a program that provides out-of-state students with reduced tuition.
On Wednesday, June 12, the counselors advise students to begin brainstorming and drafting essays for personal insight questions. The counselors all advised students to take these essays seriously during the recent academic planning night.
On the final day of the seminar, June 13, the counselors go over different types of financial aid like FAFSA and Dream Act.
At the end of the seminar, the counselors plan to hold a celebration recognizing the students’ progress on their college applications.
If you are interested in the seminar, please sign up through your advisor or counselor. Students who participate will receive a folder with materials for the seminar. Students will need to bring their social security number to the seminar for use when registering on college websites.
For more information, please contact your school counselor.
