Speech and Debate, a new club created this year by freshman Raghav Misra, is available for students to join.
The club is split in two sections: the Speech and Debate team and the Speech and Debate club.
Misra created both the Speech and Debate club and team because he wanted students to have another opportunity to learn how to publicly speak aside from Mock Trial.
The club is offered for students who don’t want to commit to a team and just want to have fun while debating. The team is for people who want to jump right in, and compete against other schools.
Speech and Debate aims to provide students with the opportunity to build their public speaking skills and have meaningful discourse with differing views and topics.
The club meets every Tuesday during tutorial, and discusses different topics students are interested in such as vaccines, and new law policies. Students interested in attending the club’s tutorial, can sign up for the Speech and Debate tutorial in Staci Osborn’s classroom on Tuesdays.
“Speech and Debate club is good if you’re not ready to commit to anything serious. However, if you would like to compete in the Speech and Debate team it would be a great idea,” said club leader Raghav Misra.
The Speech and Debate team meets every Thursday after school in I-7. They host intramural debates between students, and are actively preparing to compete in the California Valley Forensic League next year. Those interested in joining the team, can email [email protected].
