A former NP3 High School teacher was arrested Thursday, April 11 in El Dorado County on suspicion of having a sexual relationship with a student.
The El Dorado Sheriff Department launched an investigation into Jason Bourdett, 34, after one of his former students came forward and reported having a sexual relationship with him when she was 17-years-old.
According to the student, she met Bourdett in 2017 while he was still teaching Spanish at NP3 High School. The student alleges she and Bourdett met over a six-month period at his home in Cameron Park.
Bourdett taught several Spanish courses during his tenure at NP3 High School. He left NP3 High School after the 2016-17 school year.
At the time of Bourdett’s arrest, he was employed as a teacher at El Dorado High School. He has been placed on administrative leave.
NP3 High administration sent an e-mail message out Thursday evening to parents and guardians about Bourdett’s arrest.
“Know that the safety of our students is always our priority. If and when information becomes available to us we will keep you informed,” read the message.
All NP3 middle and high school staff and administrators were briefed about Bourdett’s arrest prior to school starting today, April 12.
NP3 High administrators also notified students today during second period with Dean of Students Shawn McGuire and Principal Melissa Mori visiting all of the high school classes.
“This is something that is really difficult and challenging to wrap our minds around. If this is bringing up issues for you or if you have any information that needs to be shared, our counselors are ready to help,” said Mori, “Our job is to come together and be there and protect you guys.”
