Born and raised in Sacramento, Wesley Smith is now a part of NP3 High as a Government Teacher.
“The students here are diverse, talented, and outgoing,” Smith said.
Prior to coming to NP3, Smith created and taught his own after-school program at the School of Engineering and Sciences in the Sacramento Unified School District. He also taught History and English at MET High for a half year and as a substitute teacher at the district.
Smith received a Bachelor’s degree in history from Sacramento State University and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in education. Smith said he believes in creating an equitable environment for learning and wants to create positive change in the community through teaching the youth.
Smith added that he believes there is value in mentorship and hopes to foster critical thinking through a social justice lens. He said this means students will be able to view issues in society from different perspectives, ultimately helping society as a whole.
Smith has joined the NP3 Chess club and boasts a high rating in chess. He said he looks forward to playing in tournaments at NP3.
As a foodie, Smith loves trying new cuisine and restaurants in Sacramento. His favorite foods include chicken tikka masala, traditional Chinese banquet food, and sushi.
Smith’s favorite place to visit is the beach because he loves the ocean. Smith said he also loves athleticism and sports. He has PE credentials and enjoys basketball, American football, and running.
“I cherish the opportunity (to work at NP3),” Smith said. “It means the world to me. And I am excited to be a part of this community.”
