If you are looking for something to do over the summer or want to engage in our community more, then summer at City Hall is just for you!
Summer at City Hall is a six week program for sophomores and juniors to have the opportunity to gain valuable work experience while making a difference in their communities.
The program takes place at New City Hall and Historic City Hall in Sacramento and it is from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm daily Monday through Friday beginning Monday June 17th through Tuesday July 30th.
Students are supported throughout the program by teachers that deliver a curriculum focusing on civic engagement, governmental structure and youth development.
Selected participants get a chance to take advantage of working alongside decision makers to impact their city by working as an intern within a variety of City of Sacramento departments or with a Community Based partner.
Selected interns attend fun and informative classes at City Hall, where they have the opportunity to meet peers with similar interests and to learn from and network with City Hall Officials and Decision-makers.
In addition to the experience of working at City Hall, participants that complete the 6 week program and a 42 hour internship earn five high school credits and a stipend!
The program ends out with a wonderful graduation ceremony. The ceremony is hosted in the Sacramento City Hall Chambers and is attended by parents, Internship supervisors, and community partners and supporters.
“I encourage everyone to join because it’s like a once in a lifetime opportunity for students to have fun by making new friends, having many new connections with people and other students, getting to be more active in our community by focusing on an issue to raise awareness for it, and you also meet with the mayor and sheriffs which is very cool. “ said Simrat Kaur, a junior who attended summer at City Hall.
Applications are out now at our Summer Programs website on www.np3high.com or www.cityofsacramento.org/.
The deadline for applications is Friday, April 19 at 11:59 pm!
