Some NP3 High Clubs are holding virtual meetings to encourage student engagement while the campus is closed during the coronavirus pandemic.

“Staying engaged with peers through club activities is a great way to stay connected during distance learning,” NP3 High principal Melissa Mori said.  “Clubs offer a social outlet and allow students an opportunity to talk with each other about non-academic topics.”

Drama Club meets every Saturday at 12 p.m. through Google Meet. The meetings are advised by Melissa Ciubal, NP3 High English, choir and drama teacher, and led by students, Stephen Silver and Noble Mann. During meetings club members check in with each other and make plans for deciding leadership roles and plays for the 2020-21 school year.

Kpop Club meets every Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. through Zoom. The meetings are led by Mickaela Del Pozo using the Meeting ID: 952 8221 5927 and password: 195265.

“Many of the activities we are currently doing reflect what fans do around the world: watching videos, playing games, and talking about what we enjoy through Google Meet and other platforms,” said Del Pozo.

Latino Unidos meets every Friday from 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. using Google Meet and discusses ways to help Latino communities during the pandemic. These meetings are supervised by Dulce Hernandez, NP3 High Spanish teacher, and led by students Richard Sablan, Mireya Ferrer, and Ximena Francisco.

The Pacific Times staff also meets every Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. and every Thursday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Google Hangouts under the supervision journalism adviser Brandy Tuzon Boyd. During meetings, students brainstorm story ideas and work on their articles.

“In journalism, we’ve been writing lots of articles on NP3’s response to COVID-19. During these times, we’ve been reporting on things like distance learning, how senior projects will work, and generally, things that NP3 students should know,” said staff writer Chim Unanwa.
