“Our favorite thing we have learned is that with a little nudge, people are open and so determined to get information about their cultures out to the world.” — the Calma sisters

The Asian Pacific Islander Club is one of the 23 clubs that Np3 offers.

The goal of the Asian Pacific Islander Club is to teach the NP3 community about Asian cultures and not only have others learn, but the leaders learn as well. They have an upcoming project where each student is in charge of creating a Google Slide on three interesting facts about their culture.

The club is open to everyone.

The Asian Pacific Islander Club is led by Janelle Calma and Catlin Calma. The Calmas, who are sisters and who are in 10th and 11th grade, started the club because they wanted to gain more knowledge about other Asian cultures and to have a safe place for them to express themselves. They also wanted to teach others about the Filipino culture and show people their pride.

Like most NP3 High clubs, the pandemic has affected the Asian Pacific Islander Club.

The Calmas said they had wanted to fundraise and spend more time with the community, but with the social distancing guidelines, they have had to hold off doing so. They hope they are able to hold in-person activities sometime this school year.
