NP3 High’s first intramural sports league is open to all students from 3:45 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the school gym.

The intramural sports league is coordinated by assistant principal Jonathan Brinkmann. The league includes two sports: basketball and volleyball. The gym will be used for basketball on Tuesdays and volleyball on Thursdays.

The league is flexible with the sport that will be played, according to Brinkmann. Students can request to add new sports to play if the necessary equipment and space is available, he said.

“One of my goals is to try to make more sporting events planned by students, so making teams, playing events, even making different leagues within the student population,” Brinkmann said.

Brinkmann said student reception of the intramural league seems good.

“(Students are) all appreciative, they’re engaged, they’re playing,” he said.

Brinkmann said he is open to the idea of having weekend tournaments where families can come together, watch teams play and bring food. However, he said the league should be student driven and expects students to take the initiative to request and organize these events.

“Anyone can join at any time, you don’t have to ask,” said Brinkmann. “Just come and play.”
