Libraries in Sacramento have brought back the Prom Drive! This is held at all Sacramento Public Library locations. You can go on the Sacramento Public Library website to find more information about all the libraries this is being held at and the dates. https://www.saclibrary.org

The Prom Drive is a drive where people have donated slightly used or brand new prom attire and accessories. At the giveaway event, there will be many types of dresses teenagers can choose from as well as tuxedos. They can also choose from a variety of accessories like shoes and jewelry to match with their outfit.

“The costs of prom, senior trip and graduation add up quickly so our hope is that providing access to free formal wear helps decrease the overall costs associated with prom”, said Heather Bratt, youth services librarian at the North Natomas library branch.

This event is held for teens ages 13-19. Specifically in the North Natomas Library, this event will take place on March 21 from 3:30-5:30 p.m in the community room. Adults may accompany teens when browsing for clothing however only teens may take items home.

Clothes may be tried on before making the choice of taking them home. There will be designated places for trying on clothes.

“Even if you aren’t attending prom, this event is still fun to hang out at with your friends and for browsing clothes,”said Kathy Kuttel, a teen who attended this event last year.

However, there are some guidelines set in place to ensure that this event runs smoothly. Before coming to this event make sure to wear underclothing because even if there are places to try on clothing, there may be limited privacy since many people will be coming in and out. It’s also obligatory to not wear makeup while trying on clothes to avoid ruining the clothes.
