Natomas Youth Take Action with YAC

The Youth Action Corps program empowers local youth to give back to the Natomas community.

Also referred to as “YAC,” the Youth Action Corps was established by Sacramento Council member Angelique Ashby, District One.

YAC along with the award-winning Parks Leadership Academy for Youth (PLAY) “engages youth in park cleanups, the completion of class project, provides leadership opportunities, employment preparation workshop, financial literacy classes and youth symposiums,” according to Ashby’s website.

Students in YAC focus their efforts on park beautification and volunteering at community events, such as Movies in the Park and First Fridays at the North Natomas Regional Park, while PLAY participates in clean-ups and park beautification efforts.

There is no deadline to join YAC or PLAY with volunteer orientations held throughout the year at the North Natomas Library. Volunteer opportunities vary in length and there generally several events every month from which to choose.
