A CPR class for NP3 High students planned for this week has been postponed due to rising COVID-19 cases and has been rescheduled to Feb. 16.
Jasmeet Virk had scheduled the class as part of his senior project.
His goal: to get more students and staff to be able to be CPR certified.
The class will be taught by Professional CPR, an organization which holds training for cardiopulmonary resuscitation more commonly referred to as CPR, based in Rancho Cordova.
“Over the summer break I had a family member who needed CPR and I was surprised at how unprepared I was,” said Virk.
The CPR class will show NP3 High students how to perform CPR and the Heimlich maneuver on infants, children and adults.
The class will also include when to know if CPR should be performed and how to use an AED, which is a portable defibrillator. Class participants will receive a two-year CPR certification.
“If possibly in the future, your career path will be with children or in the medical field, this could look good on your resume,” said Virk.
Virk’s first step of his senior project was to get trained himself by Professional CPR.
In addition to setting up a CPR class at NP3 High, Virk has also presented some facts about CPR to advisory classes.
“Survival rates are two to three times higher if CPR is performed properly and 54% of adults know how to correctly perform CPR” said Virk.
Once the CPR class is held, Virk plans to host a tutorial about CPR.
Virk would also like to help those NP3 staff, who have expired CPR certifications, get recertified.
