After months of preparation, Jasmin Perez and Stephanie Summers’s thrift store senior project opens this week in the NP3 library.
On Feb. 22, 24 and 25, the store will be open before and after school from 7:30 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. and 3:35 p.m. to 4:05 p.m. In addition to being open before and after school on Friday, Feb. 25, the store will also be open during lunch and tutorial.
Perez and Summers will also be selling the clothes at a pop-up market at Natomas Regional Park on Saturday, Feb. 26 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
While not everything has gone according to plan for Perez and Summers because of the pandemic, they are happy with the way that their project has turned out.
The store was previously set to open in January, but Perez and Summers waited another month because of the rise in COVID-19 cases.
Perez and Summers’s original plan was also to donate their thrift store earnings directly to homeless shelters, but they are now unable to do that because of COVID-19. They are now going to donate to the UC Davis Children’s Hospital Miracle Network. This is a non-profit organization that helps pay for medical care for children in the children’s hospital.
Perez is excited to finally open up the thrift store and says, “I’m just glad that it’s finally happening and that students will get this chance to shop sustainably. Stephanie and I have put in a lot of effort into this project and the thrift store even funded it personally so I’m really excited to open NP3’s first ever thrift store.”
